Brand expansion · Planning guide · 3 min read
Your next city deserves a plan.
A practical starting point for taking your brand into a new market, one location at a time.

Start with the business, then the map
Before making a city shortlist, describe the customer you want to reach, the format you want to open and the team available to run it. What has worked in your existing locations? What would need to change in a different market? Turn those answers into a short expansion brief that everyone can use when comparing opportunities.
Compare neighbourhoods, not just cities
Two neighbourhoods in the same city can serve very different audiences. Ask your advisor to compare customer access, surrounding businesses, visibility, competition and the rhythm of the area. Visit shortlisted locations at different times. A strong first impression is a useful starting point; a consistent comparison helps your team make a more considered choice.
Choose an operating model early
A company-operated store and a franchise location create different responsibilities. Discuss who will hire, train, supply and support the local team, and how the customer experience will stay consistent. Bring these questions into site selection so that the space, potential partners and operating plan are considered together.
Build a realistic opening sequence
Map the work between identifying a location and opening its doors: site review, commercial discussions, specialist checks, fit-out, staffing and launch. Assign an owner to each stage and discuss the dependencies with your advisor. Start with a manageable sequence and use the learning from each opening to shape the next location.
